"It's Kerala, how cold can it get?" We hear this often. And then, our guests step out of their cars at 7 PM in December, and their teeth start chattering. Vattavada is not your typical tropical destination. In winter, it is a freezer.
The Temperature Drop
From November to January, the temperature in Vattavada can drop to 5°C to 10°C at night. In the early mornings, you might even see a thin layer of frost on the grass. The wind chill factor makes it feel even colder.
The Golden Rule: Layer Up
Don't just bring one heavy jacket. The key to staying warm is layering. Start with a thermal base, add a fleece or sweater, and top it off with a windproof jacket.
The Essential Packing List
- Thermals: Top and bottom. These are life-savers for sleeping in tents.
- Beanie/Woolen Cap: You lose a lot of heat through your head. Keep it covered.
- Thick Socks: Bring extra pairs. Cold feet = miserable night.
- Moisturizer & Lip Balm: The cold air is dry and will crack your skin.
- Power Bank: Batteries drain faster in the cold. Keep your devices charged.
- Gloves: Especially if you plan to go for a morning trek or bike ride.
Campfire Nights
At Gypsys Paradiso, we provide private campfires for our guests. There is nothing quite like sitting by a roaring fire, wrapped in a blanket, sipping hot tea while the world around you is freezing cold. It's the quintessential Vattavada experience.
So pack smart, dress warm, and get ready to enjoy the chill.
