Walk from Kerala to Tamil Nadu through the clouds.
Geographically, Kodaikanal is just over the hill from Vattavada. There is an ancient forest path connecting them, often called the 'Escape Road'.
The History
Legend says this route was used by smugglers, and before that, by locals fleeing wars. It cuts through deep Shola forests, grassland ridges, and elephant corridors.
The Trek Today
- Distance: Approx 18-20 km.
- Difficulty: Hard. Steep ascents and dense jungle.
- Permissions: STRICTLY RESTRICTED. This route passes through core zones of wildlife sanctuaries. You cannot just walk it.
Legal Note: Official trekking permissions are rarely given for the full cross-border route. However, guided treks up to the border ridge (with forest department approval) offer the same spectacular views of the Kodaikanal valley.
