In the city, you are lucky if you see ten stars. In Vattavada, you lose count after a thousand. Due to its high altitude and lack of light pollution, our village offers one of the clearest night skies in South India.
Why Vattavada?
We are tucked away behind the Anamudi peak, shielding us from the city lights of Munnar. This creates a 'dark sky' environment perfect for astronomy enthusiasts.
What Can You See?
- The Milky Way: On moonless nights, the galactic core is visible to the naked eye as a faint, cloudy band across the sky.
- Planets: Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus are often bright enough to be seen without a telescope.
- Shooting Stars: Lie down on the grass for 30 minutes, and we guarantee you'll see at least one meteor streak across the sky.
Best Time for Star Gazing
December to February is the golden window. The winter air is dry and crisp, removing the haze that usually blocks the view. Avoid the monsoon months (June-August) as it's mostly cloudy.
For Photographers
If you are into astrophotography, bring your tripod. Vattavada is a Bortle Class 3 zone, meaning you can capture stunning long-exposure shots of star trails and the Milky Way.
Campfire & Cosmos
At Gypsys Paradiso, we turn off all main lights after 10 PM. We can set up a private campfire for you, so you can stay warm while you gaze at the infinite universe above.
Look up. The universe is putting on a show just for you.
