Secret Cave Trek

Secrets in
The Stone.

Most tourists visit Vattavada for the views. But for the true explorers, there is something far more ancient hidden in the folds of the mountains. Deep inside the forest lie the "Muniyaras"—ancient dolmens or burial chambers from the Megalithic age.

The Trek

This is not a marked trail. It starts from a small clearing near the Koviloor village and quickly disappears into the thick undergrowth. You will need a local guide to find the way. The path involves climbing over fallen trees, crossing small streams, and navigating through tall elephant grass.

The Discovery

After about an hour of trekking, you suddenly stumble upon them—large stone slabs arranged in a box-like structure. These are the Muniyaras. It is awe-inspiring to think that humans lived here thousands of years ago, long before the tea plantations or the roads existed.

A Sacred Silence

The area around the caves has a strange, peaceful energy. The locals believe it is a sacred spot. We ask all our guests to maintain silence and respect the sanctity of the place.

Is it Safe?

Since this trek goes through dense vegetation, leeches are common, especially after rain. Wear long socks and carry salt. Also, since it is off the beaten path, wild animal encounters are possible, which is why a guide is mandatory.

Why Go?

Because it's a connection to the past. Standing inside a cave that sheltered humans 3000 years ago is a humbling experience. It reminds us that we are just temporary visitors on this land.
