Everyone goes to Top Station for the sunrise. And that's exactly why you shouldn't. Fighting for a spot to stand amidst hundreds of tourists kills the magic. If you want a sunrise that feels personal, spiritual, and silent, head to Pazhathottam View Point.
Located on the way to Vattavada, this viewpoint offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Western Ghats. It's raw, unfenced, and absolutely breathtaking.
The Experience
You need to reach here by 5:45 AM. It will be dark and cold. As you wait, the sky begins to change color—from deep indigo to violet, and then a burning orange. Slowly, the sun rises above the layers of mountains, illuminating the mist that settles in the valleys below.
Unlike other viewpoints, Pazhathottam lets you see the agricultural tapestry of Vattavada. As the light hits the valley, you can see the patchwork of terrace farms coming to life.
Getting There
It's a short drive from Vattavada. The roads are narrow and wind through the forest, so drive carefully. We recommend taking a Jeep for the best experience.
Why It's Special
- Zero Crowds: You might be the only one there.
- The Wind: Being an open ridge, the wind here is strong and exhilarating.
- Photography: The golden hour light here is perfect for landscape photography.
After the sunrise, you can drive down to the nearby strawberry farms for a fresh morning snack. It's the perfect start to a day in the hills.
